Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to 1st Grade! We are looking forward to helping your students grow as learners and leaders. We can’t wait to see how far they come in the next 9 months. We are excited about the opportunity that we have to work with your child this year. The communication between school and home is very important. We send a communication folder home each day. Please send a note letting us know concerns or important things we need to know in this folder. You may also email us or call the school, if you ever have questions or concerns.

There is an adjustment period for the 1st 4 weeks of school. After this period has ended, all grades will be counted in PowerSchool. Your child will receive progress reports and report cards. Your child will receive grades in Reading, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Your child will be taking some assessments during the school year: MAP, Reading and Math, Core Phonics Screener, HMH Growth Measure Assessments, Amira, and DRA2. These assessments will be given at the beginning of the year, mid year, and the end of the year.

There are some ways you can help your child at home. Read with them every night. Talk to your child about what happened in the stories. Practice reading their high frequency words. Practice spelling their spelling words. Be positive and supportive about 1st grade.

Together, we will have a great school year!!
